Tibet Initiative Deutschland e.V.

Tibet Initiative Deutschland e. V. (TID) is the largest and oldest political Tibet Support Group in Germany. It was created on the occasion of the heavy unrest in Tibet in April 1989 that was forcibly put down. We are a non-partisan, non-religious and non-profit organisation.

Since the creation of TID we have been fighting for the Tibetan people's right to self-determination, the protection of their human rights and their right to independence.

We try to influence the People's Republic of China with all nonviolent means to put an end to arbitrariness, torture, political and cultural oppression in Tibet. Our main office in Berlin coordinates our work for Tibet which is carried out by more than 50 regional groups and contact points as well as many devoted members all over Germany.

Our Work

• We collect and publicise information about Tibet in order to enlighten, to motivate, to change the current climate and to aid the Tibetans.
• We arrange demonstrations, vigils and political events as a protest against the ongoing oppression of the Tibetan people.
  
• We remain in regular contact with key political decision makers and business people in order to exert influence on the Chinese government.
  
• We fight for the release of Tibetan political prisoners using our FREE ME campaign.
  
• Every year we mobilise mayors to hoist the Tibetan national flag in town all over Germany on March 10.
  
• We work closely together with the Association of Tibetans in Germany and other Tibetan organisations.
  
• We stay in close contact with the Offices of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile in Europe and in Dharamsala, India.
  
• We are an active member of the International Tibet Support Network (ITSN) and work closely with our international partner organisations.
